Published in Advanced Materials!! Demonstrated a gate-controlled quantum phase transition in WTe2 - providing ultimate evidence that the material is indeed not a quantum spin Hall (band-) insulator in its monolayer form, but instead a 2D topological excitonic insulator (TEI), in which the bulk gap is stabilised by strong Coulombic interactions among momentum-separated electron-hole pairs at the Fermi level.
